how to edit a photo inside affinity publisher

HeyBraza points at the studio switcher so you jump into photo tools on a placed image without ever leaving your layout.

one of affinity's best tricks is editing a photo with full retouch tools right inside your layout - no round-trip to another app. since the three old apps merged, this is now the 'studio switcher' rather than studiolink personas. here's where it lives.

or do it yourself

  1. 1click the placed image or picture frame on your page to select it.
  2. 2use the studio switcher (the app/persona icons, usually top-left or top-right) to switch from layout studio to photo studio.
  3. 3edit with the pixel, retouch and filter tools - the rest of your layout stays in place around it.
  4. 4switch back to layout studio using the same switcher when you're done.
  5. 5if you don't see the switcher, turn it on via the view or window menu, or use file menu → edit image on the selected picture.

common questions

where did studiolink and the photo persona go?

since affinity merged into one app, personas are now 'studios' - use the studio switcher to move between layout, photo and designer studios on the same document.

can i edit a placed image without converting it?

yes - select it and switch to photo studio (or file → edit image); you're editing inside the same affinity document, not a separate file.
