short answer
select the image and use the studio switcher to move from layout studio into photo studio - your layout stays intact around it while you retouch. file > edit image does the same thing if the switcher isn't visible.

- 1click the placed image or picture frame on your page to select it.
- 2use the studio switcher (the app/persona icons, usually top-left or top-right) to switch from layout studio to photo studio.
- 3edit with the pixel, retouch and filter tools - the rest of your layout stays in place around it.
- 4switch back to layout studio using the same switcher when you're done.
- 5if you don't see the switcher, turn it on via the view or window menu, or use file menu → edit image on the selected picture.
