how to add an artboard in affinity designer
HeyBraza points at the artboard tool and the convert option, and flags why the button can be greyed out.
artboards let you keep several designs - sizes, screens, variations - in one affinity file and export them together. but the tool is easy to miss, and the option vanishes in certain documents. here's how to add artboards and what to do when you can't.
or do it yourself
- 1select the artboard tool in the tools panel (the second icon from the top in the vector studio).
- 2in the context toolbar, click 'insert artboard' to drop a default one, or drag on the canvas to draw a custom-sized artboard.
- 3to turn an existing object into an artboard, select it and choose layer > convert to artboard.
- 4rename and resize each artboard in the layers panel and the transform/document panel so exports are labelled cleanly.
- 5if 'insert artboard' is greyed out, your document has multiple pages - remove the extra pages (and master pages) in the layout studio first, then artboards become available.

why can't i add an artboard?
affinity blocks artboards when the document uses multiple pages - delete the extra pages and master pages in the layout studio, then the artboard tool works.
do objects belong to the artboard they sit on?
yes - drop or move an object over an artboard and it's automatically nested inside that artboard in the layers panel.
