how to undo multiple times in photoshop
braza shows you the step-backward shortcut and the history panel so you can walk back through dozens of edits, not just one.
in newer photoshop, ctrl/cmd+z keeps undoing like everywhere else - but lots of people still hit the old behavior where it just toggles the last step. step backward and the history panel let you rewind through many edits at once. here's how both work.
or do it yourself
- 1press ctrl+z (windows) or cmd+z (mac) repeatedly - in photoshop cc 2019 and later this steps back through your history one edit at a time.
- 2if yours toggles instead, use step backward: ctrl+alt+z (windows) or cmd+option+z (mac) to go back multiple steps.
- 3open window > history to see every recent edit as a list - click any state to jump straight back to it.
- 4to redo, press ctrl+shift+z (cmd+shift+z on mac) or click a later state in the history panel.
- 5to restore the old single-undo toggle, go to edit > keyboard shortcuts > use legacy undo shortcuts.
let braza do this with you
braza is a tiny on-screen guide that points at the right buttons and talks you through it, on windows and mac.

why does ctrl+z only undo once in photoshop?
you're on legacy undo, where ctrl+z toggles the last step. use ctrl+alt+z (cmd+option+z) to step back further, or turn off legacy undo in keyboard shortcuts.
how many undos does photoshop keep?
it's set by the history states limit in edit > preferences > performance - raise it (e.g. to 100) to keep more steps to undo.
