Firefly logofirefly · HeyBraza shows you

adobe firefly generative fill not working

HeyBraza watches your screen, spots which of the usual blockers is stopping generative fill, and points you straight at the fix.

generative fill is usually one click - until it greys out, returns 'something went wrong', or just spins. it's almost always one of a handful of fixable causes, not a real outage. here's how to find which one is yours.

or do it yourself

  1. 1in photoshop, make sure you're on a flattened raster layer - generative fill is greyed out on text, smart-object, and vector layers until you rasterize them.
  2. 2check the document is in rgb / 8-bit: go to image > mode and set rgb color and 8 bits/channel, since other color modes disable the button.
  3. 3confirm you're signed in to a paid adobe account with generative credits left - a lapsed or credit-empty account silently blocks it.
  4. 4if it loads forever or says 'something went wrong', sign out and back in, then restart the app to refresh the firefly connection.
  5. 5still stuck in photoshop beta? roll back to the current release build - the beta often breaks generative fill while the stable version works.

common questions

why is generative fill greyed out?

usually the layer isn't a raster layer, the document is in cmyk/grayscale or 16-bit, or your adobe account isn't signed in - fix those and the button wakes up.

why does generative fill say 'something went wrong'?

it's a connection or account hiccup - sign out and back in, restart, and check you still have generative credits.
