affinity designer export blurry low quality

design looks crisp in affinity designer but the exported png or pdf comes out soft or pixelated - a classic and very fixable trap. it's usually dpi, export dimensions, or a pixel-preview view mode misleading you. here's how to find the cause and get a sharp export.

  1. 1switch your view to pixel preview (view menu) before exporting - if it already looks soft there, the artwork itself is too small, not the export.
  2. 2open file > export and raise the dpi (300 for print, 144+ for crisp screen) and/or set a larger pixel width and height.
  3. 3check the document isn't tiny - a small canvas blown up on export always looks blurry; scale the design up or restart at a bigger size.
  4. 4for pdf, turn off 'downsample images' and 'allow jpeg compression' and set rasterise to 'nothing' so vectors stay sharp.
  5. 5export again and view at 100% - soft only when zoomed in is normal; soft at 100% means the settings above still need raising.
