why is export assets greyed out in sketch
HeyBraza diagnoses why there's nothing to export and points at the 'make exportable' step you skipped.
you hit export and the button's greyed out, or it exports an empty folder. in sketch this almost always means nothing in the document is marked exportable yet - not a broken app. here's how to fix it in the mac app and the web app.
or do it yourself
- 1select the layer, group, or frame you actually want - then click 'make exportable' at the bottom of the inspector; only marked items export.
- 2if 'file' > 'export' > 'all assets' gives an empty result, it's because that command only exports items flagged exportable - flag them first.
- 3in the web app, a greyed-out 'export assets' means no exportable layers or slices exist - set them in the mac app, then re-sync.
- 4check the layer sits on whole pixels (no .5 x/y values), or exports can come out empty or shifted.
- 5as a quick test, drag a layer straight from the layer list to your desktop - if that works, the issue was just the missing exportable flag.

downloadcommon questions
why does export all assets do nothing?
'export all assets' only outputs layers, groups, frames, or slices you've marked exportable - if none are flagged, it exports nothing.
why is export assets greyed out in the web app?
the web app can only export what was made exportable in the mac app; add slices or mark layers exportable there first.
