premiere pro export black screen
HeyBraza checks your renderer and effects settings and points at the one that's blacking out the export.
you export, open the file, and it's a black screen - or black for the first few seconds. this is rarely a corrupt export; it's usually the gpu renderer, a problem effect, or a gap on the timeline. here's how to find which one.
or do it yourself
- 1open 'file' → 'project settings' → 'general' and switch the renderer to 'mercury playback engine gpu acceleration'; if it's already on gpu, try 'software only' as a test.
- 2update your graphics drivers - an outdated gpu driver is the most common cause of black exports.
- 3scrub the timeline: if a clip shows black in the program monitor too, the issue is that clip or an effect on it, not the export.
- 4disable effects one at a time (especially third-party or warp stabilizer) and re-export a short section to find the culprit.
- 5check the start of your sequence for an empty gap before the first clip, which exports as black - drag the clip to 00:00.

why is only the start of my export black?
there's usually an empty gap before your first clip on the timeline - move the clip to the very start of the sequence.
