you love an image except for one thing - a hand, a sign, the background. midjourney's 'vary region' (inpainting) lets you regenerate just that part, but it's moved into the web editor and the old discord button is gone. here's where it lives now and how to use it.

  1. 1open the image fullscreen from your create or organize page and click 'edit' in the creation actions to open the editor.
  2. 2in the editor, pick the 'paint' tool and use the erase brush to paint over only the area you want to change.
  3. 3type a short prompt in the imagine bar describing what should appear in that spot.
  4. 4click 'submit edit' - midjourney regenerates just the erased area and leaves the rest untouched.
  5. 5for a fiddly shape, use 'smart select' to mask the object, then 'erase selection' before submitting.

the vary region button is gone - where did it go?

it's now the erase brush inside the web editor. open the image, click edit, paint over the area, add a prompt, and submit edit - that's the same inpainting.

how do i change just the background?

use smart select to mask your subject, click 'erase background' to clear everything outside the mask, then prompt the new background and submit.
