blender material not showing on object
HeyBraza spots whether you're in solid view or forgot to hit 'assign', and points right at the fix.
you add a material, change the base color, and the object stubbornly stays grey - one of the most common beginner snags in blender. it's almost always the viewport shading mode or a missing 'assign' click, not a broken material. here's how to find which one it is.
or do it yourself
- 1look at the four sphere icons in the top-right of the viewport - click the third one (material preview) so materials actually display; solid view never shows them.
- 2select the object, open material properties (the checkered sphere icon) and confirm a material is in the slot list.
- 3if you have more than one material slot, go into edit mode (tab), select the faces, pick the slot, and click 'assign' - unassigned faces stay default grey.
- 4check the base color in the principled bsdf isn't pure black, which can look like 'nothing happened'.
- 5if it shows in viewport but not the f12 render, switch the render engine away from 'workbench' to eevee or cycles in render properties.

downloadcommon questions
why is my object grey even after adding a material?
you're probably in solid viewport shading - switch to material preview (third sphere icon), or you skipped the edit-mode 'assign' step.
do i have to be in edit mode to assign a material?
only when an object has multiple material slots - then select faces and click assign; a single material covers the whole object automatically.
