getting the same face across multiple midjourney images is one of the hardest things for beginners - every new prompt invents a new person. the fix is a character/omni reference, but the slot is easy to miss. here's where it lives in the web app and how to lock a character in.

  1. 1click the image icon in the imagine bar and upload a clear, front-facing image of your character.
  2. 2drag that image into the imagine bar and drop it into the 'omni reference' slot (this is the v7 successor to --cref).
  3. 3type your scene in the imagine bar - describe what the character is doing, not what they look like.
  4. 4adjust the omni weight with --ow (higher sticks closer to the reference's face and outfit; lower lets the scene breathe).
  5. 5send the prompt - the generated character should now match your reference across the new images.

common questions

is it --cref or omni reference now?

on the current web app it's the omni reference (--oref / --ow); --cref was the older character-reference parameter. both aim to keep one character consistent.

why does my character still look different?

use a single clear reference and raise --ow, and describe the action rather than the face - over-describing appearance fights the reference image.
